Airbnb Singapore : Reporting Dashboard

This project served as a practice for conducting Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) using Tableau and displaying the results in dashboards as part of RevoU's individual assignments.

Background Information

Airbnb, Inc. based in San Francisco, California, operates an online marketplace focused on short-term homestays and experiences. The company acts as a broker and charges a commission from each booking. The company was founded in 2008 by Brian Chesky, Nathan Blecharczyk, and Joe Gebbia. Airbnb is a shortened version of its original name, AirBedandBreakfast.com

Objective

Built an interactive dashboard that compiles Singapore's AirBnB room listings, hosts, and reviews

Analysis Method

Asking some key points that could be answered by creating charts and graphs in Tableau

  • How many room listings are currently available on Airbnb Singapore?

  • How many hosts have rooms listed on Airbnb?

  • How widely dispersed are the room listings across Singapore?

  • How many reviews did we get so far?

  • Which hosts and listings had the most reviews?

  • Which area/neighborhood group currently has the most listings?

  • What's the price distribution of each listing look like?

Insights

  • There are currently 4221 room listings on Airbnb Singapore. The majority of them are private rooms or entire houses/apartments.

  • Most listings are concentrated in the Central Region area with 3387 listings with Kallang as the neighborhood with the most listings (543 listings)

  • There are currently 1228 hosts who have listed their rooms on Airbnb Singapore

  • So far Airbnb collected 50812 reviews with almost 82% of the reviews coming from Central Region

  • Alex currently has the most reviews with 2468 total reviews from 83 listings

  • Single Capsule for 1 currently being the leader for listings with the most reviews (471 reviews)

  • West Region is the region with the highest average price out of all regions (182.95) followed by the Central Region. In the West Region, specifically in the Tuas, there is one listing that cost 10,286/night. This listing may shift the average price into becoming the highest among all the regions.

  • The entire home/apartment is currently the room type with the highest average prices (239.96/night). It makes much sense, as this type of room offers a bigger room with better facilities compared to other types such as a hotel or shared room

  • From the grouping of prices, we can see that majority of listings fall into '0-100' group (1980 listings) which means they offer cheaper prices with under 100

  • We can also see that majority of reviews come from the same group as well, with 32079 reviews coming from '0-100' group

Recommendations

  • There are some neighborhoods with only one listing such as Lim Chu Kang, Pioneer, Sungai Kedut, and Tuas. Airbnb can provide more listings by affiliating with more hosts and offering special promos in those neighborhoods to attract more customers

  • In Lim Chu Kang, Pioneer and Sungai Kedut, not only do they only have a single listing but also there is no review for these listings. Providing a campaign such as "leave reviews get coupon/coins" might stimulate customers to leave a review hence increasing the booking rate in that area

  • In Tuas, the sole listing comes at very high prices. Airbnb can provide a variety of listings to accommodate low-spenders customers

  • Some neighborhoods, such as Mandai and Marina South, only had two listings with few reviews (4 and 35 reviews respectively). Providing a variety of listings around those areas might increase the booking of customers
